Tissue Paper Balloon Launch Returns for 2008
More than 1,000 students expected to launch hand-made balloons

(RENO, Nev.) – Thanks to a generous grant from the E.L. Cord Foundation, approximately 1,000 elementary- and middle-school students will participate in two days of the popular E.L. Cord Foundation Tissue Paper Balloon Launch, Thursday and Friday, Sept. 4 and 5 at 9:30 a.m. on the launch field at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.

Students and their teachers will begin in the classroom by constructing hot-air balloons from tissue paper, while learning about science, mathematics, art and history. Then, students will discover the wonder and excitement of lighter than air flight as they launch their model hot-air balloons off large Bunsen-burners. The Aeronauts, the official volunteer group of The Great Reno Balloon Race, will assist the students with the launch of their balloons on the field.

For Washoe County school teachers who are interested in making tissue paper hot-air balloons with their classes, detailed instructions are available online. The E.L Cord Foundation Tissue Paper Balloon Launch is an auxiliary event of The Great Reno Balloon Race, to be held September 5-7 at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.
